Summer will soon be here and we can start looking forward to long lazy days and hazy evenings. But summer can get hot, really hot, whether you are relaxing at home or out and about. Try these simple essential oil ideas to stay cool all summer.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

This oil is well-known for its soothing properties and eucalyptus has been used to treat ulcers, burns, and wounds in Aboriginal societies for centuries. Its pleasing scent has made it valuable in both the beauty and wellness worlds.

After-sun spray: Fill a 4oz spray bottle with cool water and add 8 drops each of eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, and 1 tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil. Shake well and spray.

Ice cold towel: Perfect for after sports or lounging around the pool. Soak a towel in cold water and add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Pop it in the freezer for 15 mins and wear around your neck.

Peppermint is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean. It has been called one of the most versatile oils in the world, along with Lavender. Its history can be traced back as far as Ancient Egyptian times and there are many ways it is beneficial, promoting wellness of body, mind, and overall health.

Peppermint body spray: Mix 15 drops of peppermint essential oil with 4 tablespoons of witch hazel in a 4oz spray bottle and top up with water. This body spray will provide instant cooling relief from the sun while out and about.

Peppermint cooling bath blend: Mix 1 cup Epsom salts with 10 drops of peppermint essential oil and 5 drops eucalyptus oil and spoon into jars. Use approximately ¼ cup of this blend in a cool bath at the end of the day to boost circulation and soothe inflamed and itchy skin.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum is generally found in the Mediterranean and southern Europe. The oil can be found in all green parts of the plant, including stems and leaves, and it has many soothing properties.

Hydrating face mask: Treat yourself to a cooling hydrating face mask. Mix 1/4 cup aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, and 3 drops Helichrysum essential oil. Massage into face and relax for 10 mins, rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Cooling massage blend: Take some time out with a cooling after-sun massage. Blend 6 drops Helichrysum essential oil with 5 drops lavender essential oil and add to 2 oz Aloe Vera Gel.
