The weather is warming up and we will all be spending more time outside in the sun. I love the summer heat and all the fun outside activities, but it can be hard on my skin and hair. Fortunately, I’ve found some awesome, non-toxic essential oils for skin and hair to get me through the season, and I’m going to share some of my favorite essential oils for summer tricks to keep your skin and hair healthy and beautiful all summer long.
Exfoliating Lemon Sugar Scrub
During the summer we’re usually showing a lot of skin and exfoliating is extra important. Use this yummy recipe with lemon essential oil to get rid of dead skin layers and reveal glowing healthy skin.
Lemon EO - 15 drops
Cocount, Jojoba or Almond Oil - ¼ cup
White Sugar - 1 cup
Mix ingredients together in a mason jar for easy storage. Once or twice per week, gently rub the scrub using circular motions on wet skin in the shower.
Anti-aging Body Balm
A good body balm is essential to soothe dried-out or sun-weary skin. This rich version has Helichrysum, Frankincense, Sandalwood and several other essential oils to refresh and tone your skin. The unrefined shea butter, meanwhile, will help increase collagen production for more youthful radiance.
Unrefined Shea Butter - 1 cup
Almond, Jojoba or Coconut Oil - 1 cup
Helichrysum EO - 20 drops
Frankincense EO - 10 drops
Sandalwood EO - 10 drops
Lavender EO - 5 drops
Ylang Ylang EO - 5 drops
Melt butter and oil together, then add essential oils. Cool the mixture in the freezer and then whip into the desired buttery consistency. Store in a mason jar.
Lavender and Tea Tree Oil Blemish Lotion
If you find that the heat and humidity of summer makes you more prone to breakouts, this blemish lotion is a life saver with some of the best essential oils for skincare. The Tea Tree oil attacks bacteria on your skin while the lavender calms redness and soothes irritation. This lotion is also good for dry, itchy skin or bug bites.
Coconut Oil - 1 tsp
Lavender EO - 4 drops
Tea Tree EO - 4 drops
Mix ingredients together and dot on spots before bed or as needed.
Nourishing Spray for Healthy and Lustrous Locks
Don’t forget to pamper your hair during the summer months. With lots of swimming and sun your hair can get dry and damaged and may need essential oils for hair. For a soothing scalp treatment add 1 drop of Chamomile and 1 drop of Eucalyptus essential oils to your regular shampoo. Enjoy the cooling sensation as it invigorates your scalp and hair. Another wonderful essential oil for your scalp and hair is Sage. When you feel your scalp drying out or flaking, Sage will soothe and moisturize for thicker-looking, shinier hair.
And here’s a healing hair spray that contains some of the best essential oils for haircare: Rosemary and Lavender essential oils to get your tresses shining with health and smelling divine.
Rosemary EO - 10 drops
Lavender EO - 10 drops
Cedarwood EO - 10 drops
Witch Hazel - 1 ounce
4-oz Glass Spray Bottle
Water or Salt water(for a beachy wave look)
Mix oils and witch hazel together in the spray bottle. Fill the rest of the way with water. Shake well and spray lightly on wet hair. Dry, style and enjoy more lustrous hair.
