Author:Alison Pedler
Ingredients
-
1/2 cup rolled oats
-
1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
-
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
-
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
-
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
A pinch of salt
-
Your choice of toppings: fresh berries, sliced bananas, chopped nuts, seeds, or dried fruits
Directions
Combine Ingredients: In a mason jar or a container with a lid, add the rolled oats, Greek yogurt, milk and honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix everything until well combined.
Customize: This is where you get to be creative. Add your favorite toppings to the mixture. Berries, sliced bananas, chopped nuts, seeds (like chia seeds or flax seeds), or dried fruits are all excellent choices. You can also add a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder for extra flavor.
Stir and Seal: Give everything a good stir to evenly distribute the oats. Then, seal the container with a lid.
Refrigerate: Place the container in the refrigerator and let it sit overnight or for at least 4 hours. During this time, the oats will absorb the liquid and become soft and creamy.
Serve: The following morning, grab your jar of overnight oats, give it a quick stir, and enjoy! You can eat them cold straight from the refrigerator, or if you prefer them warm, simply microwave them for about 30 seconds.
Additional Toppings: Before serving, you can add more fresh fruit, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, and a sprinkle of your favorite nuts or seeds for extra texture and flavor.
Recipe Note
Since overnight oats usually maintain their freshness in the refrigerator for around 5 days, consider preparing a batch on Sunday and keeping it in the fridge for the entire week. However, be careful if you plan to add fruit in advance, as fruits tend to lose their freshness within a couple of days.
