This particular recipe also adds in cinnamon--which is great for you on its own, and adds flavor--and black pepper to the tea. Piperine, the active component of black pepper, has been shown to increase absorption of curcumin, the active component of turmeric.

Use fresh ginger, turmeric, black pepper, and cinnamon sticks for maximum potency--though depending on time and pantry restraints, you might prefer this quick-and-dirty variation

  • Combine hot water with ½ tsp ground turmeric, ½ tsp ground ginger, ¼ tsp ground cinnamon and a pinch of black pepper. Steep for 3-5 minutes, then strain into your mug. This variant will have less potent healing properties, but brings the goodness of ginger and turmeric into your body with less fuss.
